I got to teach for 3 hours today--lots of poetry and lots of questions about America. One boy wanted to know how old I was. When I told him I was going to be 66 next month, he was clearly shocked. He said, "Madam, in this country mothers that are that old walk with a stick."
I explained to him that I was born in a country where I always had plenty of food, a safe home, a free education, and good health care. All these blessings were given to me not because I deserved them but because of the place I was born and that I wanted all people to have these blessings.

dear byby - you are 66?? that seems impossible! i miss you so much and cannot wait til you come home and will play and read and sing and dance with ME! i am so lucky to have you as my byby. iloveya, Livvy
hey booboo. i put your note on the bathroom mirror so that i look at it every morning before I go listen for turkeys. David and I took livvy to supper tonight at Cracker Barrel and then to WalMart. She had pancakes and french fries. We bought a fishing pole and she wanted to go to byby's house to spend the night. I informed her you were still in Africa and will be home Friday. We had a great time but missed you. I got all the leaves out of the carport yesterday and we are waiting for you on the deck. Love and miss you, Edgar
betsy, what a blessing you are for these beautiful children. it is so amazing that you can still teach poetry in your dotage! i guess i will let you teach ALL of king lear next year.
i have been reading your blogs every day but just found out how to post a message. you are moving me into the 21st century all the way from africa. isn't that ironic.
i have been able to spend lots more time w/ your babies since you have been gone, but we still want you to come home now. i will share your girls w/ you if you will share w/ me.
you are truly God's angel in the lives of these students. He told me how happy you are making Him :o)
i love you and miss you. see you soon~ di di
The students are precious, & it's so exciting that they are eager to learn. Once a teacher, always a teacher. Can't believe 66!! And not walking with a stick. They should see you in action during your E.C. Glass trips to Europe. Pancakes & french fries at Cracker Barrel & then WALMART!!! What will Anne say?!?
